Shortee Detroitee

This past week has been good. Or since the last post, it has gotten better. Been spending a lot of time with the parents, this past weekend i went to Detroit with Amy and got to see a couple of my cousins. The rest of the family was gone, but thats okay, I feel comfortable enough that if i were to want to drive down there again and find their houses i could. Thats one of my favorite feelings of all, is going to a big major city, or really anywhere that you are unfamiliar with, and just explore and become familiar with it. To a point where you are able to get lost and find your way back home. Its like meeting new people, but your meeting a new city. And Detroit is a city i have been driving to and visiting my whole life and im just NOW getting familiar with it and comfortable with it....I got more familiar with Western Europe before i got familiar with Detroit, now that says a lot about Detroit right there....or maybe about me.....

Amy and I went to DEMF this past weekend, also known as techno fest, tech fest, movement, and/or the Detroit Electronic Music Festival. A lot of it was bad....im not to into techno or house or electro whatever. But the stuff that was different was AMAZING. I saw people like Busy P, RJD2, Krazy Baldhead, Glitch Mod. And then my top two favorites were Flying Lotus, a hip hop dj/producer/remixer from california. I started listening to him maybe a little over a year now, I like to think that the music he makes is kind of like a little representation of myself....like if my personality was music, it would sound like Flying Lotus....or something like that. Another cool thing about him is that his mom is Alice Coltrane and his dad is John Coltrane, both legendary Jazz artists. He's keeping the music alive and well in his family. Then my absolute favorite was DJ Z-Trip, he stole the entire festival, for sure. He is a "mash-up" DJ like Girl Talk, but better, and he is like...the originator. His big thing was taking like 70's or 80's pop sensations like Phil Collins or Michael Jackson and playing them along side with current hip hop artist like the Pharcyde or even House of Pain. He was awesome live. You wouldnt think that a dude just spinning records...not really moving much...just staying behind a table, would be that much fun live, but these dudes can do it, and its awesome when they can do it well!

But other than those people at DEMF, it was pretty much all the same...and just...blah, same beat same song...a three day long music fest full of the same sound....i dont know how they do it. Well, for the first few years the fest was free, then they started charging...i dont think there is any other three day long music festival of ANY kind of music out there that you can get into for $40...its the stuff that sounds different that keeps the people coming back, like Z-Trip or Flying Lotus.

Well...thats it for now, lets end it on common grounds:
